Who We Are...

Who on earth has a name quiz? That is not the point. The point is-- why doesn’t every teacher here have a name quiz??? Brother Grant has a name quiz and I will say that loud and proud! Learning everyones names for a moment, was a grade… But then on September 28th I saw just why we learned them and how knowing them gave us a sense of trust and care that could not be ignored. The subject of the class this day was ‘death’ and we had finished Tuesday’s with Morrie. The mine disaster was the big event that was planned for the class that day. The ironic thing is, the big event really was us realizing what the power of knowing each other’s names allowed us to do. We felt a sense of belonging and many opened up to the class. I am a firm believer that we may not have had that same experience if we didn’t take the time to begin to know one another. The spirit felt in the classroom during these somber moments was undeniable.

The Lord said … I know thee by name (Exodus 33:17)

He knows my name. He knows your name, too. Isaiah 45:3 explains, “I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.” It is often in darkness and secret places that God reveals to us the greatest treasures, all the while whispering our name. Let’s stay the course together…
